Scouting Report

Willie Warren is an inbetween guard at six-foot-four with a game that suits the two guard more at this point. After Blake Griffin left Oklahoma, Warren’s numbers declined from excellent to rather mediocre. I suppose that is not shocking as a lot of college players that aren’t stars tend to suffer without a big time threat to take the pressure of the fans and the defense off of them. Something like that would be a question mark if he was being scouted as a lottery talent but seeing that the Clippers got him late in the second round, I think the risk was worth taking, especially because Griffin is on their team.

Getting shot good opportunities will not be much of a problem with the talent around him. He shot 47% as a freshman (57% on 2pters and 37% on 3′s) and he was a lot better once things were settled down in the half court last season (a sign that Griffin’s absence wasn’t too big of a deal but it definitely did hurt his progression and draft status). Warren ranks near the top of the rookie class when it comes to pull-up jumpers. Warren is a  tweener that has iffy decision making skills but can be an explosive offensive option off the bench. And with NBA level teammates, perhaps he will find his scoring opportunities easier to come by than during his final season in college.
