The Market For Matt Holliday: "You'll never guess who Scott Boras is comparing free agent Matt Holliday to? Another Boras client who signed a $180 million deal last winter - Mark Teixeira. "These guys are blue-collar superstars. They don't hit 50 home runs, but they're complete players. They can give you something without swinging a bat."" I see Holliday going to the Mets. New York is coming off of a horrendous year offensively because of injuries and their current left fielder Gary Sheffield is not going to last another year. [LA Times, via The Big Lead] (0)(14632)

Even Gary Sheffield is Embarrassed By the Mets

Gary SheffieldThe New York Mets are having an abysmal season. Their four best players, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado, have all spent time on the DL, and their best pitcher, Johan Santana, leads the league in “tough losses”.

I guess the one bright spot of the season for the Mets would be when Gary Sheffield hit his 500th career home run at Citi Field. While Sheffield should be thankful that the Mets gave him a chance after the Tigers cut him, Gary is instead asking the team to release him.

As of 6:30 p.m., one of the sources said, Mets officials and Sheffield were in discussions on how to move forward. Mets pitcher Tim Redding actually said he heard Sheffield had been released. But a Mets official told the Post that was inaccurate and that Sheffield had not been released. [NY Post] Continue reading…

Jocketty also said [...]

The Tigers have decided to part ways with veteran outfielder/DH Gary Sheffield. The move will force Detroit to pay Sheff $14 million even though the season hasn’t begun yet.

This was a stunning story as Gary was set [...]
