Anquan Boldin Is On the Trading Block

For a while there I thought the Arizona Cardinals were going to be able to hold onto both of their star receivers for this season.

Well, as it turns out that the Cardinals are now taking offers for Anquan Boldin.

“I think the fact that we’re coming out and acknowledging we’re willing to listen does not mean we haven’t listened in the past,” Cardinals’ General Manager Rod Graves said. “In my opinion, it’s not a change in position, just the fact that we’re acknowledging publicly that we are evaluating those interests.”

Some rumors are floating around that the Cardinals want two draft picks for Anquan, including a first rounder for this season. Boldin’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said that Arizona would be looking to get what the Lions got for Roy Williams, another Rosenhaus client, in their trade with the Dallas Cowboys.

The team has made re-signing/trading Boldin the third priority this off-season, putting a contract extension with Adrian Wilson and re-signing linebacker Karlos Dansby at the top of the list.

Moving Boldin would be a big change for Arizona. Part of the reason that the team was so successful last season was the presence of two number one wide receivers on each side of Kurt Warner. Without Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald would be paired with Steve Breaston and Keith Urban, which is a big drop off in talent.

Teams that are interested in Boldin may shy away from him because of the steep price that the Cardinals are requesting. Luckily for them, Braylon Edwards is also on the market.

Head Coach of the Cardinals Ken Whisenhunt has stated that a “few” teams have already called to ask about Boldin.

The New York Giants are a team that have been mentioned in talks with both Arizona and Cleveland and have a significant need at the wide receiver position as well.
