Breaking: Tigers Release Gary Sheffield

gary-sheffieldA day after trading for an outfielder, the Detroit Tigers have decided to let one go.

The Tigers have decided to part ways with veteran outfielder/DH Gary Sheffield. The move will force Detroit to pay Sheff $14 million even though the season hasn’t begun yet.

This was a stunning story as Gary was set to DH for the Tigers this season. Sheffield is sitting at 499 career homeruns and adding another could mean a Hall-of-Fame lock.

When Gary was asked if this was the end of his career, he said, “It ain’t close.”

Sheffield will now hit waivers and, once he clears, can sign with any team. Gary mentioned the Tampa Bay Rays as a possible destination.
