This could be big news if Commisioner Selig decides to take any action against Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera.
What happened? He’s not talking, but police records show the boys in blue were called to his house early Saturday morning. Cabrera came home at 6 am, apparently trashed, and his wife called the cops. Cabrera blew a .26 (.08 is the legal limit) but wasn’t charged with anything. Cabrera, a noted party animal, went a combined 0-for-7 on Saturday and Sunday.
I don’t think that Cabrera will be suspended, by his team or by the MLB Front Office. This playoff game is too important to the city of Detroit for them to go into without their best player. However, any though of Cabrera taking the American League MVP award from Joe Mauer or even Derek Jeter have to be through after this. I know that his performance on the field has been stellar this year, but I don’t think that a wife-beater should be the face of your league no matter what.
