Can Tony Dungy Save Another Career?

Marvin Harrison Tony Dungy has already saved the career of troubled quarterback Michael Vick this off-season and now he is lobbying for Marvin Harrison, whom he coached for seven years and left the Colts close to the same time Dungy did, to get a job in the NFL.

The team that Dungy has been pushing Harrison on the most is the Chicago Bears. Marvin to the Bears makes sense for two reasons: a) Chicago has no true wide receivers for their new quarterback Jay Cutler to work with and b) Lovie Smith is a good friend of Tony Dungy. Giving Cutler a veteran target like Harrison could vault the Bears to the top of the NFC North food chain, and Marvin could also mentor Devin Hester in the art of the receiver position.

Apparently there were some whispers about Harrison going to the Titans, but the team shot those down.

Other than the Bears, I can see Harrison going to either the Minnesota Vikings or the New York Giants.

I see the Vikings as a candidate for Harrison because of this article from July that stated Harrison would go to the Vikings if Brett Favre went there as well. Since Favre has just recently done so, why not give him another veteran to throw to. It’s not like Bernard Berrian or Percy Harvin are possession receivers, and you can always use one of those.

The Giants have been named with about every wide receiver on the market this off-season, and rightfully so since they lost their best pass catcher Plaxico Burress when he shot himself. While the Giants did draft Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden, they still need a clear number one receiver without having to rely on Domenik Hixon.

Speaking of the Giants, Plaxico might want to get Tony Dungy’s number so he can help him when he gets out of prison in two years.
