Tyler Hansbrough had plenty of doubters all throughout his college career at North Carolina, and all of the naysayers still remain.
He’s not big enough. He’s not strong enough. He can’t shoot. [Insert NBA power forward here] would eat him alive.
Tyler has probably heard all of those phrases and then some. I am sure that he takes them into account and uses them as fuel in his ever so popular motor that propelled him into the lottery of the NBA Draft.
As a member of the Indiana Pacers summer league squad, Hansbrogh has already showed he has a lot more to show than was expected.
In the team’s first game of the summer, Hansbrough lead the team in scoring with 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting in 25 minutes of play. His activity on the court was as advertised, racking up three steals, five rebounds (three offensive), while committing five fouls.
Surely it was a fluke, the doubters will say.
That’s not the case. Take a gander at the line he put up in the second game of his (semi) pro career.
23 pts, 6-10 FG, 2-2 3FG, 9-10 FT, 4 reb, 6 PF.
Again he was scoring, and at a very high efficiency level, while being very active on the defensive end.
This may sound crazy, but because of this guy’s drive for success and incredible work ethic, I am not afraid to say it. Tyler Hansbrough will be a better player and will have a better career than Blake Griffin by far. I don’t think Griffin has the knack for winning that Phyco-T does, and being on the Clippers doesn’t help.
Think it’s insane? If you can recall the Elite Eight match-up between the Tar Heels and the Sooners, you would remember that Blake Griffin scored zero points when Tyler Hansbrough was on the court during the first half.
