The Golden State Warriors have stopped talks with the Phoenix Suns regarding acquiring Amar’e Stoudemire for a package that included center Andris Biedrins, forward Brandan Wright and the seventh overall pick Stephen Curry.
Apparently the Warriors were set on agreeing to Biedrins, Wright and Marco Belinelli until they saw that Curry became available when the Warriors were picking. As soon as they saw Curry get taken by Golden State, the Suns immeaditely made Stephen the cornerstone of any package they would get for Amar’e.
The Warriors, however, are not going to part with the shooting star. Despite having the chance to trade for an all-star talent in Stoudemire, Golden State is sticking with their rookie, whom they valued higher than Blake Griffin – so did I.
Warriors’ head coach Don Nelson had the following to say of Curry at a press conference Thursday:
“He wasn’t drafted for somebody else. He is not going to be traded. He was drafted because we think he is going to be a terrific player, and he’s going to be right here. So he can unpack his bags, he can relax, go buy a house, because he ain’t going any place.”
Curry and his game should fit in excellentely with the Golden State ballclub, creating an explosive scoring backcourt with point guard Monta Ellis.
